Leroy Woods was indicted for second degree murder. He pled not guilty and, after trial by jury, was convicted of the responsive offense of manslaughter, a violation of La.R.S. 14:31. Subsequently, the state filed a bill of information charging defendant as a second felony offender. See La.R.S. 15:529.1.
