Torrence Gipson, who had previously been convicted on three violent felonies, was convicted of possessing a firearm, in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 922(g)(1), 924(a)(2), and 924(e)(1). Because of Gipson's three previous felonies, the district court1 sentenced him to the fifteen-year mandatory minimum sentence provided by 18 U.S.C. § 924(e)(1), to be followed by three years of supervised release.
