Thomas J. Brown was indicted by the grand jury on February 25, 1988 with two counts of first degree murder in violation of La.Rev.Stat.Ann. § 14:30 (West 1986). At his arraignment on February 29, 1988, he entered a dual plea of not guilty and not guilty by reason of insanity. After a four-day trial, a twelve-member jury on June 23, 1988 found the defendant guilty of manslaughter of Claudette McGowan on count one and guilty as charged of first...
