Justice CAMPBELL delivered the opinion of the court:

Following a jury trial in the circuit court of Cook County, defendant Walter Lane was found guilty of the first degree murder of George Victor Malmgren and his wife Raquel. Defendant was also found guilty of two counts of aggravated kidnapping and one count of armed robbery. Defendant was sentenced to natural life imprisonment for the murders, concurrently sentenced to sixty
