In 1981 the Dallas law firm of Jenkens & Gilchrist began representing the Vernon Savings & Loan Association. On October 7, 1986, three lawyers, named Bauman, Bernasek, and Bradley, employed by Jenkens & Gilchrist left the firm to become partners in the Dallas office of Baker & McKenzie, a law firm that already had almost a thousand lawyers.
