On 5 December 1988, respondent, Michael Charles Hayes, was indicted on four counts of first degree murder, five counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, two counts of assault with a deadly weapon on a law enforcement officer, and one count of assault with a deadly weapon on medical personnel.
