On 12 March 1990, plaintiff's husband, Harry E. Keys, was admitted to Duke University Hospital for congestive heart failure, and on 14 March 1990, he underwent cardiac surgery. In plaintiff's complaint she alleged that on 3 April 1990, plans were being made to discharge Mr. Keys to his home.
