On January 15, 1990, defendant, Frank Butler, was indicted by the Beauregard Parish grand jury for two counts of distribution of cocaine, a violation of LSA-R.S. 40:967(A)(1), and one count of distribution of marijuana, a violation of LSA-R.S. 40:966(A)(1). The offenses were alleged to have been committed on or about November 10, 1988 and May 2, 1989. At arraignment, defendant waived formal reading of the bills of indictment and pled not guilty...
