THIBODEAUX, Judge.

On May 14, 1992, Michael Howard was indicted by the Rapides Parish grand jury for second degree murder, a violation of LSA-R.S. 14:30.1. Following a jury trial, a unanimous verdict of guilty of second degree murder was returned on January 22, 1993. On January 28, 1993, the defendant received the mandatory sentence of life at hard labor without benefit of parole, probation or suspension of sentence.
