Background

Following a jury trial in the circuit court of Cook County, defendant, Vernon Scott, was convicted of two counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, in violation of Ill.Rev.Stat.1989, ch. 56½, par. 1401. Defendant was sentenced to thirty years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
