After a bench trial, defendant, Robert Gordon, was convicted of aggravated battery to a senior citizen (Ill.Rev.Stat.1989, ch. 38, par. 12-4(b)(10) (now as amended 720 ILCS 5/12-4(b)(10) (West 1992))) and robbery (Ill.Rev.Stat.1989, ch. 38, par. 18-1 (now 720 ILCS 5/18-1 (West 1992))).
