The facts in this case are virtually undisputed. The complainant, R.G., was leaving a friend's home, located at 2222 South State Street in Chicago, at about 11:30 p.m., on January 24, 1989, when defendant approached her in the lobby, put a knife to her neck, and cut her upper lip.
