After a July 1991 bench trial, the trial court convicted defendant, Michael R. Barger, of two counts of criminal sexual assault of his four-year-old daughter, G.B., in violation of section 12-13(a)(3) of the Criminal Code of 1961 (Criminal Code) (Ill.Rev.
