This is a diversity suit to enforce a vendor's lien. We can simplify the facts. The plaintiff, Askren, owner of a two-acre parcel of land in Indianapolis, made a contract with Cardinal Industries, a hotel chain, to sell the parcel to Cardinal for $250,000.
