Defendant Sherman Spears was charged with murder, attempted murder, armed violence, home invasion, aggravated unlawful restraint, aggravated battery and unlawful use of a weapon by a felon. The unlawful use of a weapon by a felon charge was severed and the armed violence, aggravated unlawful restraint and aggravated battery charges were dropped.
