Defendant Louis Martorella, an obstetrician, attended Marlena Tiborsky during labor and delivery of plaintiff's infant. To aid Tiborsky's labor, defendant prescribed Pitocin, a synthetic hormone that stimulates uterine contractions; the drug was administered for eight hours.
