On August 26, 1988, plaintiffs Corbitt and Lettie Pittman's residence and its contents were severely damaged by fire. The plaintiffs carried a homeowner's insurance policy with defendant Republic Franklin Insurance Company ("Republic"). The plaintiffs submitted their proofs of loss to Republic in December, 1988.
