Thompson filed an application for postconviction relief, claiming he had been denied effective assistance of counsel during criminal case proceedings which culminated in his conviction for third-degree sexual abuse. The district court denied Thompson's application, ruling that his criminal case trial counsel did not render ineffective assistance.
