The defendant, Alvin S. Spencer, was convicted following a bench trial of the offenses of criminal sexual assault (Ill.Rev. Stat. 1989, ch. 38, par. 12-13(a)(1)) and theft of property under $300 (Ill.Rev.Stat.1989, ch. 38, pars. 16-1(a)(1), (b)(1)). The defendant was sentenced to 12 years' imprisonment for the criminal sexual assault conviction and to a concurrent term of 364 days in the Lee County jail for the theft...
