CALLAHAN, J.

The defendant, Bruce Boles, was charged with the crime of murder in violation of General Statutes § 53a-54a (a).1 The charge arose out of the bludgeon slaying of a woman, in May, 1989, in Waterbury. After a jury trial, the defendant was found guilty of the charged offense. He was thereafter sentenced by the trial court to a term of imprisonment of fifty years.
