The appellant, James Dwight Cameron, was convicted of assault in the second degree and was sentenced to ten years' imprisonment. The victim of the assault was four-year-old Jeremy Dean. Expert medical testimony established that the child suffered a basilar skull fracture as a result of trauma to the mastoid area (the area of the skull behind the ear).
