A jury in the district court for Douglas County convicted Donna J. Johnson of first degree assault, see Neb.Rev.Stat. § 28-308 (Reissue 1989), and using a knife to commit a felony, see Neb.Rev.Stat. § 28-1205 (Reissue 1989). Each of the crimes charged against Johnson is a Class III felony, punishable by imprisonment for a minimum of 1 year and a maximum of 20 years, a $25,000 fine, or both imprisonment and a fine.
