SCHUMACHER, Judge.

Respondent Ammend, an honorably discharged veteran, was discharged from his position in the Isanti County Sheriff's Department without a hearing. He sought relief from the Department of Veteran's Affairs, and the Department concluded that because Ammend was discharged from a position other than that of Chief Deputy he was entitled to the protections of the Veterans Preference Act.
