Defendant was charged with second-degree murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony as a result of the shooting death of sixteen-year-old Spencer Thomas on the evening of May 24, 1989. Following a bench trial, defendant was found guilty of voluntary manslaughter, MCL 750.321; MSA 28.553, and felony-firearm, MCL 750.227b; MSA 28.424(2). The trial court sentenced defendant to a term of five to fifteen years for the voluntary manslaughter...
