This products liability case arises out of a hip replacement operation performed on Gordon Porter, the plaintiff, on July 15, 1986. During the course of the operation, the surgeon drilled a hole in Porter's hip so that he could implant a 64mm one-piece acetabular cup without using cement. As the surgeon hammered the acetabular cup into place, however, the cup's polyethylene liner separated from the metallic backing...
