After a jury trial, defendant, Johnny Ortiz, was found guilty of aggravated battery in violation of section 12-4(a) of the Criminal Code of 1961 (Ill.Rev.Stat.1987, ch. 38, par. 12-4(a)) and was sentenced to five years in the Department of Corrections.
