FOIL, Judge.

The defendant, Samuel D. Overton, was charged by grand jury indictment with second degree murder, a violation of LSA-R.S. 14:30.1. He pled not guilty1 and, after trial by jury, was found guilty as charged. He received a mandatory sentence of life imprisonment at hard labor without benefit of parole, probation, or suspension of sentence. The defendant has appealed, alleging eleven assignments of error, as follows:
