GRABER, Justice.

This case comes before us on automatic and direct review of judgments of conviction of aggravated murder and sentences of death. ORS 163.150(1)(f) (1987). Defendant seeks reversal of his convictions of aggravated murder. In the alternative, he asks this court to vacate his sentences of death and remand his case to the circuit court for a new penalty phase trial. Defendant also seeks reversal of his convictions of noncapital crimes.
