Justice BOWMAN delivered the opinion of the court:

Following a jury trial in the circuit court of Kane county, defendant, Domingo Luna, was convicted of battery, a Class A misdemeanor (Ill.Rev.Stat.1989, ch. 38, par. 12-3(a)). The trial court sentenced defendant to 52 weeks' probation, 10 consecutive weekends at Kane County Correctional Center, and 50 hours' community service. Defendant appeals, contending that the trial court erred in imposing defendant's sentence...
