Following a jury trial, the defendant, Robert J. Gutierrez, was convicted of armed violence (Ill.Rev.Stat.1991, ch. 38, par. 33A-2), two counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm (Ill.Rev.Stat.1991, ch. 38, par. 24-1.2(a)(2)), attempted residential burglary (Ill.Rev.Stat.1991, ch. 38, pars. 8-4(a), 19-3(a)) and unlawful use of a weapon by a felon (Ill.Rev.Stat.1991, ch. 38, par. 24-1.1(a)).
