Respondent-appellant Myra L. Ware has a lengthy and heart-rending history of misfortune. Her grandfather fondled her as a child. Her alcoholic father beat her mother. Her mother and brother physically and mentally abused her. She has been raped and mugged, and both of her husbands beat her. She suffers from a chronic arthritic condition.
