On November 25, 1988, appellant Lonnie Jewell shot Jerry Smith and James Dickson, killing Smith and wounding Dickson. Appellant contended at trial that he shot the victims in self-defense. He was tried by a jury and convicted of manslaughter and attempted first degree murder. He was sentenced to six years in the Arkansas Department of Correction and fined $10,000 on the manslaughter conviction and $15,000 on the attempted first degree murder conviction...
