LAMBERT, Justice.

In the early morning hours of April 28, 1990, the Bath County police department was contacted concerning an alleged rape. Within thirty minutes, the five-year-old victim was brought to the dispatch office. At that time, the victim was bleeding from her vaginal area and, upon questioning, named appellant as her assailant.
