In October 1991, the State charged defendant, Jerry L. Salvator, Jr., with the offense of possession of controlled substances (less than 15 grams of a substance containing cocaine) (Ill.Rev.Stat.1991, ch. 56½, par. 1402(c)). In January 1992, defendant filed a motion to suppress the evidence which was the basis of the charge against him. In March 1992, the trial court conducted a hearing on that motion and...
