The defendant, Dickey Gaines, and his brother, Michael Gaines, were jointly indicted for two counts of murder, one count of attempted murder, two counts of armed robbery, and other offenses. Defendant and Michael were tried separately. Defendant's jury returned general verdicts of guilt for the crimes charged. The State requested a death penalty hearing pursuant to which the jury found defendant eligible for the death...
