Julie Cockerton, age twenty-six, was admitted to Mercy Hospital Medical Center on June 23, 1987, for the purpose of surgery to correct a problem of Julie's open bite. Her back teeth meshed, but her front teeth did not meet. The four and one-half hour surgery was performed by John A. Maletta, D.D.S.
