Following a jury trial in the circuit court of Madison County, defendant, Ernest Perry, was convicted of two counts each of murder (Ill.Rev.Stat.1985, ch. 38, par. 9-1(a)) and home invasion (Ill.Rev.Stat.1985, ch. 38, par. 12-11(a)(2)) in connection with the stabbing deaths of Alvin Autery and Mary Irwin.
