After a jury trial in the circuit court of Cook County, defendant, Wayne Nicholls, was found guilty of attempted armed robbery (Ill.Rev.Stat.1989, ch. 38, par. 18-2), and armed violence (Ill.Rev.Stat.1989, ch. 38, par. 33A-2). Defendant's motion for a new trial was denied. The trial judge sentenced defendant to 9 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
