In this case, Helen and Harold McVey (appellants) sued Robert Berman, M.D. (appellee) for damages for medical malpractice. The jury found that, in the course of a surgery performed on Mrs. McVey's abdomen, Dr. Berman negligently caused some damage to a nerve or nerves in Mrs. McVey's left leg. The jury awarded damages to Mrs. McVey for medical expenses, lost wages, and physical pain and suffering. The jury awarded $0.00 in damages for "permanent impairment...
