Following a jury trial, appellant was convicted of carrying a pistol without a license (D.C.Code § 22-3204 (1989)) and second-degree murder while armed (D.C.Code §§ 22-2403, -3202) (1989)) in connection with the death of one Jerry Pickens.1 He was also convicted of assault in violation of D.C.Code § 22-504 (1989) in connection with an assault on one Leroy Johnson that same evening.
