On November 11, 1991, following a jury trial in the circuit court of Pike County, defendant Herschel Joseph Place was convicted of first degree murder (Ill.Rev.Stat. 1991, ch. 38, par. 9-1(a)(1)), attempt (first degree murder) (Ill.Rev.Stat.1991, ch. 38, par. 8-4(a)), and two counts of armed violence (Ill.Rev.Stat.1991, ch. 38, par. 33A-2). He was subsequently sentenced to concurrent terms of 25 years' imprisonment...
