Justice GREEN delivered the opinion of the court:

On June 10, 1991, defendant Desi A. Warren entered a plea of guilty to unlawful delivery of a controlled substance (more than 15 grams of a substance containing cocaine) (Ill.Rev.Stat.1989, ch. 56½, par. 1401(a)(2)). A second charge, identical to the first except it charged the offense of unlawful possession with intent to deliver, was dismissed. He was subsequently sentenced to a term of 15 years' imprisonment...
