After a jury trial in the Superior Court the defendant was convicted of assault with intent to commit rape of a child under sixteen years of age, and of one count of violating a restraining order issued under the provisions of G.L.c. 209A (1990 ed.).1 The Appeals Court reversed, and we granted further appellate review.
