On this appeal, defendant contends, inter alia, that he was denied a speedy trial pursuant to the dictates of CPL 30.30 (1) (a). The operative facts follow. A felony complaint was filed on July 18, 1989 and defendant was thereafter indicted on July 27, 1989. On July 31, 1989 the People announced their readiness for trial.
