In 1984, the plaintiff, Richard Roe1 ("Roe"), underwent a surgical procedure at the Little Company of Mary Hospital here in Chicago for treatment and removal of an enlarged spleen. He received transfusions of multiple units of blood, some of which apparently was contaminated with the Human Immunodeficiency Virus ("HIV"). Roe filed this suit in the Circuit Court of Cook County...
