In October 1970, Susean Shipley suffered an on-the-job injury which left her permanently disabled. As a result of this injury, Shipley was awarded workers' compensation by the State of Hawaii. Her employer, the Ala Moana Hotel in Honolulu, Hawaii, had a policy of workers' compensation insurance issued by the appellee, Travelers Insurance Company.
