Justice CAMPBELL delivered the opinion of the court:

Following a jury trial, defendants, Robert Jackson, John Brandon and Michael Williams were convicted of the murder of Willie Ray Thompson on November 19, 1984. Brandon and Jackson were each sentenced to 35-year prison terms; Williams was sentenced to a 40-year prison term. John Brandon and Michael Williams are not parties to this appeal. The instant appeal is related to People v. Brandon (1990),
