Lionel Hicks, Sr., a Slidell policeman, was injured on May 6, 1984 when his police car was hit by a vehicle driven by Clifford Rupert. Hicks sued Rupert's insurer, State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company, Aetna Insurance Company, the liability insurer for the City of Slidell, and Fireman's Fund Insurance Company, insurer of school buses operated by the St. Tammany Parish School Board.
