WALSH, Justice:

The defendant, James E. Stansbury ("Stansbury"), was charged with Murder First Degree and two counts of Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony as a result of the June 10, 1988 slaying of a young woman. Following a jury trial in Superior Court, Stansbury was convicted of all charges and received a mandatory life sentence on the murder charge and five years on each of the weapons offenses...
