On August 5, 1988, at his home in Dundalk, Maryland, Stephen Apostoledes (Mr. Apostoledes) was shot three times and died as the result of the gunshot wounds. Present in the Apostoledes home at the time of the shooting, in addition to the victim, was Mr. Apostoledes' wife, Marie Apostoledes (Ms. Apostoledes), who is petitioner herein, as well as John Lacey (Lacey), who is the son of Ms. Apostoledes and stepson of Mr. Apostoledes.
